Welcome to AircraftMechanicSchools.org.  We hope to introduce you to the important and exciting field of aircraft maintenance and how to obtain the necessary training to enter this career. There are several advantages to becoming an FAA certified Airframe and Powerplant (A & P) technician, which is the endpoint of your training as an aircraft mechanic. To summarize briefly, these are:

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a mean annual wage of $53,000 and a mean hourly wage of $25 per hour, as of May, 2010
A skill set which is increasingly sought after by many employers
A high amount of mobility in the job market, and a varied selection of cities in which employment is possible
Aircraft mechanics directly impact airline safety and compliance, and make an important contribution to the overall financial health of their employer

The FAA recognizes over 200 aviation mechanic schools. Ideally, one should attend a program approved by the FAA.
